| Aborginal is the name conceived by a colleague for an intranet portal. It’s a play on the word “Aboriginal”, and the company name, “Above 1″.
As defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary: ab·orig·i·nal 1 : being the first or earliest known of its kind present in a region <aboriginal forests> <aboriginal rocks>
2 a: of or relating to aborigines
b: often capitalized: of or relating to the indigenous peoples of Australia
When assigned to create a logo based on the “Aborginal” (intentionally misspelled) identity, I immediately hit upon the idea of using Aboriginal art as a basis for my logo. I’m not really sure if the Aborigines thought the same way I do, but after reading the following passage, I thought, “Hey, those are good qualities to emulate.”. Hence, the adaptation of the gecko in the design. In order to survive, one needs to be able to adapt, regenerate strength and go on. The Gecko is a small adaptable lizard, with the ability to camouflage itself to suit its surroundings. Should a Gecko lose its tail in a fight, it can regrow a new one. Although only a small lizard, the Gecko can survive in very harsh conditions. |
